Hackers (1995): Roger K. Burton's Timeless Costume Design

In 2020, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of “Hackers,” costume designer Roger K. Burton curated an exhibition titled “Hackers: Costumes from the Motion Picture” at The Horse Hospital in London.

The exhibition showcased the main cast’s costumes, accessories, and Rollerblades, along with original mood boards and rare photos from the fittings. Roger expressed the creativity involved in selecting the characters rollerblades and customising them to better reflect their personalities.

He also credits a lot of 70’s clothing as inspiration for a variety of the outfits and points out the interesting fashion choice of using certain clothing items outside of their intended context. (Example: Kate’s white fencing body suit with white hockey pads.) The polaroids taken of the cast are displayed above and many more exist, showcasing the intriguing aspects of the interaction between filmmaking and costume designers in 1995.
